Dr. Case was born in Columbus and was raised on a dairy farm in Northeastern Bartholomew County near Hope. She graduated from Hauser High School in 1979 and went on to Purdue University were she earned a Bachelor of Science
degree in Animal Sciences in 1983 and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1986.
She married Mark Case in 1984 and started working with Dr. Wes Robinson, the founder of Athens, right after graduation
from Purdue. She and Mark have two children, Shelby who works at Athens and Tanner who works in construction and farming. Tanner is married to Rebekah who works for Riverside Carpet One in Columbus. They live on the
family farm just west of Hope and they have beef cattle, a border collie, and 2 cats.
Dr. Case enjoys reading, scrapbooking, and watching sports. She is a member of the Bartholomew County Health Board,
the Bartholomew Co. 4H Council, the project leader for 4H Veterinary Science in Bartholomew Co., a member of the Meridian Kiwanis in Columbus, a member of the Ninth District Indiana Veterinary Medical Association (IVMA),
the state IVMA, the American Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Animal Hospital Association. She is the Bartholomew County Animal Disease Control Emergency Coordinator. She and her family attend St. Peter’s
Lutheran Church in Columbus.
After 30+ years in the profession of veterinary medicine, Dr. Case knows that it’s not just about the animals but also about caring for the people with whom the animals live
and building relationships with those individuals. She feels blessed to have been afforded the opportunity to come home to Bartholomew County and make a life and living in the community where she spent her formative
years.
Dr. Susan Kochert, grew up on a dairy farm in Floyds Knobs, Indiana. She is a 1999 graduate from Purdue University’s School of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Kochert worked for a mixed animal practice in Greensburg
for 15 years. The last 4 years she has been exclusively practicing small animal medicine where she enjoys surgery and internal medicine, especially in feline patients. She joined the team at Athens in November
2015.
Dr. Kochert is a member of the AVMA and IVMA. She is a member of St. Mary’s Church of Greensburg, and in her free time she enjoys gardening, exercising and visiting family. She has 3 feline babies - Cleo,
Hershel and Nicholas.
Shelby is the office manager at Athens. She started working full time in May of 2010 after graduating from Purdue University with a degree in Animal Agribusiness. She is currently serving on the Bartholomew County
Fair Board serving as Beef Superintendent along with other positions.
When she isn’t at work you can find her at home with her border collie Hitch and 3 cats – Franklin, Eleanor and Rose or on the family
farm working with their beef herd. Watching and helping her mom, Dr. Case, in the vet profession growing up, sparked her interest and passion for animal health care. This led her back home to join the family business.
Joni works in the treatment and surgery area at Athens Animal Clinic. She has been at Athens since 1987. Joni really likes the hands on work with the patients.
She has several indoor pets – 2 very spoiled Terrier
Chihuahua mixes named L See and Terdina, an Irish Setter named Scarlet and an Irish Wolfhound named Hagatha. They also have 2 cats, Less-ter who has 3 legs and Eggroll, who is very anti-social to humans but
loves dogs. She also has several barn cats.
Christina started at Athens early fall of 2013. She has been a Vet Assistant for 12+ years. She comes from a retired military family.
She and her husband have a 7 year old son named Cole. They also have
2 cattle dogs – Diesel and IV, 2 cats – Shooter and Stripes, and a flock of backyard chickens.
April started at Athens in the summer of 2014. She has worked in the Veterinary field for 14+ years. Originally from the Indianapolis area, but now has lived in Columbus for over 20 years.
She has a son named
Lance, who is 21. They have 3 dogs, Pepper, Luka and Stewart. They also have 2 cats, Apple and Jackrabbit, who are brother and sister. When not working at the clinic she enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
Sara started at Athens in October 2016. She mainly works in the pharmacy area but you will sometimes also see her upfront in the reception area. Starting her career at an animal clinic in Florida, she has been in the animal
clinic business for a little over two years now.
She and her husband Adam currently have two fur babies, Greta a pekingese and Olive a pekingese mix. In her spare time she is going to school to get her
veterinary technicians license to further her knowledge and grow in the business.
Claire started at Athens in December of 2017.
