FILLETS

​In this range, you will find the classic marinated herring fillets. These are packed in jars of 230, 380 or 720 cc. Fillets can also be combined with macedoine, mayonnaise and yoghurt. We call our rolled fillets ‘lekkerbekjes’ (‘for the gourmets’) and these are available au naturel, in tartar sauce, mayonnaise or Liège sauce. Our bismarck herring is a marinated herring in an extra sweet marinade.

why herring?

​Herring is not only tasty, did you know herring is one of the healthiest fishes in the world? Herring even scores very high on durability.

Healthy herring

​Herring is a healthy oily fish. Scientific research has shown that people who regularly eat oily fish have about a 50% lower risk of cardiovascular disease.

Herring contains high-quality protein and the fat of the herring consists largely of unsaturated omega 3 fatty acids. The protein-rich fish is essential for building and repairing muscles, organs, the nerve system and the blood.

​​There is responsible stock management where catch quotas are set based on scientific research. There are very good controls on how much can be fished per country (and per vessel) and that everyone works together to maintain a healthy sea.

Herring can easily be caught in a durable way because it forms shoals. Thus, herring fishermen do not need to make contact with the seabed with their nets. Herring fishing therefore has hardly any bycatch of other fish or marine animals.
