House Rules
A list of basic expectations for playing in our campaign. Don't know what some of these terms mean? No worries, it will be explained to you.
Basics
- You can be an adult and have fun at the same time.
- We will not play with murderhobos, rules lawyers, edgelords, or drama queens.
- The DM is not your enemy; that's not how this works. The DM is a "referee" and a "storyteller". He or She has a plotline prepared, and the players create the detaisl of the story. If you purposely disrupt the story, you will not be invited
back.
- Sometimes, the DM will "fudge" things for the sake of the story and continuity of the game. More often than not, this goes in your favor.
- Sometimes, the DM will disagree with you or not allow you to do something you want to do. This is not "railroading", this is the referee making a decision during the game, a decision you might not like. You can appeal any DM decision during
a break, but...
- The DMs decision (after any appeals) is final.
- If a question about a rule comes up, don't be surprised if the DM makes a decision "for today" and continues the game. We can look it up and discuss it later and clarify proper play during following sessions.
- Sometimes the DM is wrong. Sometimes you are wrong. Sometimes, all of us are wrong. It's ok to be wrong.
- Do NOT metagame. Try not to min/max.
- Benefits of some sort are always given for good roleplaying.
- Players may access any player-enabled (in Fantasy Grounds or physical copy) during play. Players may not access monster bestiaries or DM copies of the adventure during play.
- If the (in-person) host asks for everyone to bring food or to chip in for delivery, please don't be "that guy". Expectations will be included in the session announcement. Have no money? No sweat, just please talkt o the host before the
game so there are no hurt feelers.
- NO cell phones during play. Since everyone playing must have a PC or Mac, "I'm looking up a rule" doesn't fly. Save the phone for breaks. It is understood that emergencies happen and someone may need to reach you; if you
must take a call, step away from the table. No testing, no off-topic browsing, no Facebook. It's rude and disrespectful toward everyone present. If you do step away from the table to make or take a call, do not be surprised if the
game continues without you.
- Please don't be late to a session; we don't get enough time to play as it is. If you are late, please call the DM or host to let someone know (even more important if you will not be coming at all). Do not expect everyone else to wait for
your arrival, Edgelord.
- Please try to pay attention during the game. If it your turn to act, be prepared. Take the time to learn the game rules and to learn your character. If you take too long to make an action, you may lose your turn.
